Why this petition matters

Started by Dhruv Boruah

We all have seen how plastic is killing life in the Ocean and scientists have found plastic in the water/salt/fish/air we drink/eat and breathe. But it all starts here, with us; in our canals, to the streams, river, sea, to the Ocean and back on our dinner plate.

This video highlights how things can get started right in our canals. We have to not only avoid buying the plastic water bottle, plastic straws, plastic bags but also we have to stop littering them in the first place and try to get the recycled.

Many of us are already giving up your valuable time & effort to regularly clean up our local communities. But this is of no use; unless we can stop and find a solution to littering in the first place. The incident in the video had been reported but multiple local authorities have failed to react. This is not just a flytipping incident but also a safety issue for boaters in the waterways.

We believe the local councils need to be more proactive and enforce the littering fines more seriously. Only then, we can encourage behavioural change and stem this tide.

We seriously urge you to support us to help Michael Gove MP get all the momentum he needs to urge local councils to take littering charges seriously and act now to put a stop to this injustice.
